Discover the secrets to making perfectly crisp and fluffy Bánh Tiêu (Vietnamese Donuts!) at home in just 30 minutes. These beloved Vietnamese pastries are a delight to make and enjoy with family and friends.

Ingredients

– 2 cups (250g) all-purpose flour

– 1 teaspoon active dry yeast

– 1/4 cup (50g) granulated sugar

– 1/2 teaspoon salt

– 1/2 cup (120ml) warm milk

– 2 tablespoons vegetable oil, plus more for frying

Instructions

1. – In a large bowl, combine the flour, yeast, sugar, and salt.

2. – Add the warm milk and 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil. Mix until a soft dough forms.

3. – Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.

4. – Cover the dough and let it rest for 30 minutes.

5. – Divide the dough into 12 equal pieces and roll each piece into a smooth ball.

6. – In a large pot or Dutch oven, heat 2-3 inches of vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).

7. – Fry the dough balls in batches for 2-3 minutes per side, or until golden brown.

8. – Drain the fried donuts on a paper towel-lined plate and serve warm.

Notes

For a crispier exterior, you can lightly dust the dough balls with flour before frying. These donuts are best enjoyed the same day, but leftovers can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
