Ingredients
– 2 cups all-purpose flour
– 1 teaspoon baking powder
– 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
– 1/2 teaspoon salt
– 1 tablespoon ground cardamom
– 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
– 3/4 cup granulated sugar
– 2 large eggs
– 1/2 cup buttermilk
– 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
– 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
– 1/4 cup honey
– 2 tablespoons orange zest
Instructions
1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan and set aside.
2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and ground cardamom. Set aside.
3. In a large bowl, beat the 1/2 cup of softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
4. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the buttermilk and vanilla extract.
5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing just until combined. Do not overmix.
6. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and bake for 45-50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
7. Allow the bread to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
8. In a small bowl, combine the 1/2 cup of softened butter, honey, and orange zest. Mix until well blended.
9. Serve the cardamom bread warm or at room temperature, with the honey orange butter spread on top.
Notes
For a richer flavor, you can substitute up to 1/4 cup of the all-purpose flour with whole wheat flour. The bread can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 4 days.
