Description

This quick and easy Cheddar and Herb Soda Bread is a savory treat that’s perfect for snacking or pairing with soups and stews. The combination of cheddar cheese and aromatic herbs creates a flavorful and satisfying bread that’s ready in just 20 minutes.

Ingredients

– 2 cups all-purpose flour

– 1 teaspoon baking soda

– 1/2 teaspoon salt

– 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, cold and cubed

– 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

– 2 tablespoons chopped fresh herbs (such as rosemary, thyme, or chives)

– 1 cup buttermilk

Instructions

1. – Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

2. – In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.

3. – Add the cubed butter and use your fingertips to rub it into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

4. – Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese and chopped herbs.

5. – Pour in the buttermilk and stir just until a shaggy dough forms.

6. – Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and gently knead it a few times, being careful not to overwork it.

7. – Shape the dough into a round loaf and place it on the prepared baking sheet.

8. – Bake for 18-20 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

9. – Allow the bread to cool for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

For best results, use a high-quality cheddar cheese and fresh herbs. The bread can be enjoyed warm or at room temperature, and pairs well with soups, stews, or as a snack on its own.
