Description

Delightfully tender and flavorful, this Chinese Steamed Whole Fish is a classic dish that’s easy to make at home. Infused with the aromatic notes of ginger, green onions, and soy sauce, it’s a mouthwatering meal that’s perfect for a cozy weeknight or special occasion.

Ingredients

– 1 (3-4 lb) whole fish, such as sea bass or tilapia, cleaned and scaled

– 3 tablespoons soy sauce

– 2 tablespoons rice vinegar

– 1 tablespoon sesame oil

– 2 teaspoons grated ginger

– 2 green onions, sliced

– 1/4 cup chopped cilantro

Instructions

1. Pat the fish dry and make 3-4 diagonal slits on each side of the fish.

2. In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, and grated ginger.

3. Place the fish in a heat-proof dish or steamer basket. Pour the soy sauce mixture over the fish, making sure to get some inside the slits.

4. Set the dish or steamer basket over a pot of simmering water, making sure the water doesn’t touch the bottom of the dish.

5. Steam the fish for 15-20 minutes, or until the flesh flakes easily with a fork.

6. Carefully transfer the steamed fish to a serving platter. Garnish with the sliced green onions and chopped cilantro.

7. Serve the Chinese Steamed Whole Fish immediately, with steamed rice and your favorite sides.

Notes

– For an extra flavor boost, you can add sliced ginger or lemon slices to the steaming liquid.

– Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheated gently before serving.
