Description

Indulge in the flavors of the season with this divine Christmas Eve Lasagna. Layers of rich tomato sauce, creamy béchamel, and melted cheese come together to create a mouthwatering holiday masterpiece.

Ingredients

– 1 pound ground beef

– 1 pound Italian sausage, casings removed

– 2 (28-ounce) cans crushed tomatoes

– 2 cloves garlic, minced

– 1 tablespoon dried oregano

– 1 teaspoon dried basil

– 1/2 teaspoon salt

– 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

– 8 ounces no-boil lasagna noodles

– 15 ounces ricotta cheese

– 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

– 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

– 3 tablespoons unsalted butter

– 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour

– 2 cups milk

– 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg

Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 375°F.

2. In a large skillet, cook the ground beef and Italian sausage over medium heat until browned and crumbled, 8-10 minutes. Drain excess fat.

3. Stir in the crushed tomatoes, garlic, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 10 minutes.

4. In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Whisk in the flour and cook for 2 minutes. Gradually whisk in the milk and cook until thickened, about 5 minutes. Stir in the nutmeg.

5. Spread 1 cup of the meat sauce in the bottom of a 9×13-inch baking dish. Arrange a layer of lasagna noodles over the sauce. Spread half of the ricotta cheese over the noodles, then top with 1 cup of the meat sauce and 1/2 cup of the mozzarella cheese.

6. Repeat the layers of noodles, ricotta, meat sauce, and mozzarella.

7. Top with a final layer of noodles and pour the béchamel sauce over the top. Sprinkle with the Parmesan cheese.

8. Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and bubbly.

9. Let the lasagna rest for 15 minutes before serving.
