Freshly baked Cinnamon Sugar Soft Pretzels are a classic and irresistible homemade treat. With a soft, chewy interior and a crisp, cinnamon sugar-coated exterior, these pretzels are the perfect snack or party appetizer.
Ingredients
– 1 1/2 cups warm water
– 1 tablespoon active dry yeast
– 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
– 4 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
– 1 teaspoon salt
– 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
– 1 egg, beaten with 1 tablespoon water (for egg wash)
– 1 cup granulated sugar
– 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
Instructions
1. – In a large bowl, combine the warm water, yeast, and 1 tablespoon of sugar. Let sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
2. – Add the flour and salt to the yeast mixture and stir until a shaggy dough forms.
3. – Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
4. – Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
5. – Punch down the dough and divide it into 12 equal pieces.
6. – Roll each piece into a long rope and shape into a pretzel.
7. – Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Gently drop the pretzels into the boiling water, one or two at a time, and cook for 30 seconds per side.
8. – Remove the pretzels from the water and place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
9. – Brush the pretzels with the egg wash.
10. – Bake at 450°F for 12-15 minutes, until golden brown.
11. – In a shallow bowl, combine the 1 cup of sugar and 2 tablespoons of cinnamon.
12. – While the pretzels are still warm, dip them in the cinnamon sugar mixture, coating all sides.
13. – Serve the Cinnamon Sugar Soft Pretzels warm and enjoy!
Notes
For a sweeter pretzel, you can increase the amount of cinnamon sugar coating. Store any leftover pretzels in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
