Ingredients
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
3 eggs
1 cup unsalted butter, melted
3 medium apples, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Powdered sugar for dusting
Instructions
1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9-inch round baking pan and line the bottom with parchment paper.
2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt.
3. In a separate bowl, beat the eggs until light and fluffy. Gradually pour in the melted butter, whisking constantly until well combined.
4. Fold the egg mixture into the dry ingredients until just combined, being careful not to overmix.
5. Arrange the thinly sliced apples in the prepared baking pan, overlapping them slightly. Sprinkle the apples with the ground cinnamon.
6. Gently pour the cake batter over the apples, spreading it evenly to the edges of the pan.
7. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
8. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then invert it onto a serving plate. Dust the top with powdered sugar before serving.
Notes
For a variation, you can substitute the apples with pears or other seasonal fruit. The cake can be stored at room temperature for up to 3 days, or in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.
