Description
Crispy, golden-brown fried feta rolls drizzled with a sweet and spicy chili honey sauce – a delightful appetizer that’s perfect for any occasion.
Ingredients
– 8 ounces feta cheese, crumbled
– 8 sheets phyllo dough
– 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
– 1/2 cup honey
– 2 tablespoons chili powder
– 1 teaspoon ground cumin
– 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
– 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
Instructions
1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
2. In a bowl, combine the crumbled feta cheese.
3. Lay one sheet of phyllo dough on a clean work surface and brush it lightly with the melted butter. Place another sheet of phyllo dough on top and brush with more butter.
4. Cut the stacked phyllo sheets in half lengthwise to create two long strips. Place 2 tablespoons of the feta cheese mixture at the bottom of each strip, leaving a 1-inch border.
5. Fold the bottom corner over the filling, then fold the sides in and continue rolling up the phyllo dough tightly to create a cylinder.
6. Place the rolled feta rolls seam-side down on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
7. Bake the rolls for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.
8. While the rolls are baking, make the chili honey sauce. In a small saucepan, combine the honey, chili powder, cumin, paprika, and cayenne pepper. Heat the mixture over medium-low heat, stirring occasionally, until warmed through and well combined.
9. Remove the fried feta rolls from the oven and drizzle the warm chili honey sauce over the top.
10. Serve the fried feta rolls with chili honey immediately, while hot and crispy.
Notes
These fried feta rolls can be made in advance and reheated in the oven before serving. The chili honey sauce can also be made ahead of time and reheated. For a spicier version, increase the amount of cayenne pepper.
