Description

Ingredients

– 2 cups masa harina

– 1 1/2 cups warm water

– 1 teaspoon salt

– Vegetable oil for frying

– Shredded chicken, lettuce, tomato, crumbled cheese, etc. for serving


Instructions

1. 1. In a large bowl, mix together the masa harina, warm water, and salt until a soft dough forms.

2. 2. Divide the dough into 12 equal pieces and roll each piece into a ball.

3. 3. Use your hands to flatten each ball into a round pocket, about 1/4 inch thick.

4. 4. In a large skillet, heat 1/2 inch of vegetable oil over medium-high heat.

5. 5. Fry the gorditas in batches for 2-3 minutes per side, until golden brown.

6. 6. Drain the fried gorditas on a paper towel-lined plate.

7. 7. Serve the warm gorditas with your desired toppings, such as shredded chicken, lettuce, tomato, and crumbled cheese.

Notes

For a healthier option, you can bake the gorditas instead of frying them. Preheat the oven to 400°F and bake the flattened dough pockets for 10-12 minutes, flipping halfway through.
