Ingredients
– 3 cups all-purpose flour
– 1 teaspoon salt
– 1 package (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
– 1/2 cup warm water
– 1/2 cup warm milk
– 1/4 cup granulated sugar
– 1/4 cup honey, plus more for drizzling
– 2 large eggs
– 6 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
– 1 cup shelled pistachios, roughly chopped
Instructions
1. In a large bowl, combine the flour, salt, and yeast. Set aside.
2. In a separate bowl, whisk together the warm water, warm milk, sugar, and 1/4 cup honey.
3. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until a shaggy dough forms.
4. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes, until the dough is smooth and elastic.
5. Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
6. Punch down the dough to release the air bubbles. On a lightly floured surface, roll the dough into a large rectangle, about 12×18 inches.
7. Spread the softened butter over the dough, then sprinkle the chopped pistachios evenly over the top.
8. Starting from the long side, tightly roll the dough into a log. Cut the log into 12 equal pieces.
9. Arrange the pieces in a greased 9×13 inch baking pan, cut-side up. Cover and let rise for 30 minutes.
10. Preheat the oven to 350°F (177°C).
11. Bake for 25-30 minutes, until the tops are golden brown.
12. Remove from the oven and immediately drizzle with additional honey.
13. Serve warm and enjoy!
Notes
For a richer flavor, you can use half all-purpose flour and half whole wheat flour. You can also substitute chopped pecans or walnuts for the pistachios.
