Description
Malvern Pudding, also known as Custard Apple Pudding, is a classic English dessert that’s rich, creamy, and bursting with the flavors of fresh apples. This old-fashioned recipe is easy to make and perfect for any occasion.
Ingredients
– 2 cups whole milk
– 1/2 cup granulated sugar
– 3 large eggs
– 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
– 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
– 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
– 4 medium Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced
Instructions
1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
2. In a medium saucepan, whisk together the milk, sugar, eggs, vanilla, cinnamon, and nutmeg until well combined.
3. Place the saucepan over medium heat and cook, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens and coats the back of a spoon, about 5-7 minutes. Be careful not to let the custard boil.
4. Arrange the sliced apples in a 9-inch pie dish or baking dish. Pour the custard mixture over the apples, making sure they are evenly covered.
5. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the custard is set and the apples are tender.
6. Remove the Malvern Pudding from the oven and let it cool for at least 15 minutes before serving.
Notes
Serve the Malvern Pudding warm or chilled, with a dollop of whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream, if desired. This dessert can be made a day in advance and stored in the refrigerator until ready to serve.
