Ingredients
– 2 cups all-purpose flour
– 1/2 teaspoon salt
– 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cubed and chilled
– 1/2 cup warm water
– 1 pound boneless, skinless chicken breasts, diced
– 2 tablespoons Moroccan spice blend (such as ras el hanout)
– 1 tablespoon olive oil
– 1/2 cup finely chopped onion
– 2 garlic cloves, minced
– 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
– 1 teaspoon lemon zest
Instructions
1. In a food processor, combine the flour and salt. Add the chilled butter and pulse until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Gradually add the warm water and pulse until the dough comes together. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead briefly. Cover and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
2. In a large skillet, sauté the chicken with the Moroccan spice blend and olive oil over medium-high heat until the chicken is cooked through, about 6-8 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
3. In a bowl, combine the cooked chicken, onion, garlic, parsley, and lemon zest. Mix well.
4. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
5. On a lightly floured surface, roll the dough out into a large rectangle, about 1/8-inch thick. Cut the dough into 6-inch squares.
6. Place a heaping tablespoon of the chicken filling in the center of each dough square. Fold the dough over the filling to create a half-moon shape and press the edges to seal.
7. Place the stuffed msmen on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown.
8. Serve the Moroccan Chicken-Stuffed Msmen warm, garnished with additional parsley if desired. Enjoy!
Notes
For a flakier pastry, you can brush the msmen with a beaten egg or milk before baking. Leftover msmen can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
