Description
Mujadara is a classic Lebanese dish made with lentils, rice, and caramelized onions. It’s a comforting, one-pot meal that’s packed with flavor and nutrition.
Ingredients
– 1 cup brown or green lentils, rinsed
– 1 cup long-grain white rice
– 1 large onion, thinly sliced
– 3 cloves garlic, minced
– 1 teaspoon ground cumin
– 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
– 1/4 cup olive oil
– 4 cups vegetable or chicken broth
– Salt and pepper to taste
– Chopped parsley for garnish
Instructions
1. In a large pot, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and sauté for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until golden brown and caramelized.
2. Add the minced garlic and sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
3. Stir in the lentils, rice, cumin, and cinnamon. Pour in the broth and season with salt and pepper.
4. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 20-25 minutes, until the lentils and rice are tender.
5. Remove from heat and let sit, covered, for 5 minutes. Fluff the Mujadara with a fork.
6. Serve hot, garnished with chopped parsley. Enjoy!
Notes
– For extra flavor, sauté the onions until very dark and caramelized.
– Adjust seasoning to taste. Add more broth if the mixture seems too dry.
– Serve Mujadara with a dollop of plain yogurt, lemon wedges, and a fresh salad.
