Ingredients
– 2 cups all-purpose flour
– 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
– 1 teaspoon salt
– 1 package active dry yeast
– 1 cup warm milk
– 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
– Vegetable oil for frying
– Powdered sugar for dusting
Instructions
1. In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, salt, and yeast.
2. Add the warm milk and melted butter, and stir until a soft dough forms.
3. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
5. On a lightly floured surface, roll the dough out into a rectangle about 1/4-inch thick.
6. Cut the dough into 2-inch squares.
7. Heat 2-3 inches of vegetable oil in a large pot or Dutch oven to 350°F.
8. Fry the beignets a few at a time for 1-2 minutes per side, until golden brown.
9. Drain the beignets on a paper towel-lined plate and dust generously with powdered sugar while still warm.
10. Serve immediately and enjoy!
Notes
For best results, serve the beignets fresh and hot. Leftover beignets can be reheated in a 350°F oven for 5-10 minutes to restore their crispness.
