Ingredients
– 1 lb ground turkey
– 1 onion, diced
– 2 bell peppers, diced
– 3 cloves garlic, minced
– 1 (15 oz) can diced tomatoes
– 1 (15 oz) can tomato sauce
– 2 tbsp chili powder
– 1 tsp cumin
– 1 tsp dried oregano
– 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
– 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper (optional)
– Salt and black pepper to taste
– Shredded cheese, sour cream, and chopped cilantro for serving (optional)
Instructions
1. – In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook the ground turkey, breaking it up with a wooden spoon, until browned and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes.
2. – Add the diced onion and bell peppers to the skillet and cook for 3-4 minutes, until softened.
3. – Stir in the minced garlic and cook for 1 minute, until fragrant.
4. – Pour in the diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, chili powder, cumin, oregano, smoked paprika, and cayenne (if using). Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
5. – Bring the mixture to a simmer, then reduce the heat to medium-low and let the chili simmer for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the flavors have melded and the chili has thickened.
6. – Serve the Skillet Turkey Chili hot, topped with shredded cheese, a dollop of sour cream, and chopped cilantro, if desired. Enjoy with crusty bread or cornbread.
Notes
– For a spicier chili, increase the amount of cayenne pepper or add a diced jalapeño.
– Substitute ground beef or ground chicken for the turkey, if desired.
– Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days or frozen for up to 3 months.
