Description

Indulge in the irresistible blend of sweet maple and savory sausage in this comforting, family-friendly casserole. Perfect for a cozy weeknight dinner or a potluck gathering, this dish is sure to satisfy.

Ingredients

– 1 lb Italian sausage, casings removed

– 1 onion, diced

– 3 cloves garlic, minced

– 1 cup maple syrup

– 6 eggs

– 1 cup milk

– 1 tsp salt

– 1/2 tsp black pepper

– 1/2 tsp dried thyme

– 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese

Instructions

1. 1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).

2. 2. In a large skillet, cook the sausage over medium heat, breaking it up as it cooks, until browned, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess fat.

3. 3. Add the diced onion and minced garlic to the skillet. Cook for 2-3 minutes, until the onion is translucent.

4. 4. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the maple syrup, eggs, milk, salt, pepper, and dried thyme.

5. 5. Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish. Layer the sausage mixture in the bottom of the dish, then pour the egg mixture over the top.

6. 6. Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the top.

7. 7. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the casserole is set and the cheese is melted and bubbly.

8. 8. Let cool for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

This casserole can be made ahead of time and refrigerated or frozen for later. Simply reheat in the oven when ready to serve. For a spicier twist, use hot Italian sausage or add a pinch of cayenne pepper to the egg mixture.
