Description

Indulge in the authentic flavors of Greece with these Traditional Greek Honey Cookies (Melomakarona) – a melt-in-your-mouth dessert that’s perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

– 2 cups all-purpose flour

– 1/2 cup granulated sugar

– 1 teaspoon baking powder

– 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon

– 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves

– 1/2 cup olive oil

– 1/4 cup freshly squeezed orange juice

– 1/2 cup walnuts, finely chopped

– 1 cup honey, for drizzling

Instructions

1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, and cloves. Whisk to blend.

3. Add the olive oil and orange juice, and knead the dough until it comes together. If the dough is too dry, add a tablespoon of water at a time until it reaches the desired consistency.

4. Roll the dough into small, oval-shaped balls, about 1 inch in size. Place them on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 1 inch apart.

5. Bake the cookies for 12-15 minutes, or until they are golden brown.

6. Remove the cookies from the oven and immediately drizzle them with the honey. Sprinkle the chopped walnuts over the top.

7. Allow the cookies to cool completely before serving. Enjoy!

Notes

For a variation, you can add a teaspoon of ground cinnamon to the dough for extra flavor. These cookies can be stored in an airtight container for up to 1 week.
