What is Goulash?

Goulash is a stew or soup of vegetables and meat seasoned with paprika and numerous other spices. It is a Hungarian dish, but goulash is also famous in Southern Europe, Scandinavia, Switzerland, Belgium, Netherlands, Eastern Europe and Central Europe. To enhance the flavor of your crockpot goulash, you will need wine, bell pepper, caraway seed and garlic.

North American Crockpot goulash recipe isn’t like Hungarian goulash, is made with onion, beef and elbow pasta smothered in a tomato broth.

The modern goulash stews contain roux or flour for thickening. Tomato is a new, but delicious addition in the central Europe. You can use lamb, pork, veal or beef to prepare goulash. Typical cuts required for crockpot goulash are shoulder, shin or shank to get sufficient thickness. Muscles can be a good addition in goulash because these will be converted into gelatin during cooking. In simple words, the meat is sliced into small chunks, seasoned with pepper and salt and finally browned with chopped onions and oil in one pot. Paprika is good to add flavors to your crockpot goulash recipe. You can serve goulash with some pasta.
