This hearty instant pot pasta sauce makes enough to serve a crowd or to stash some away in the freezer for another night. Use half for a spaghetti dinner and turn the other half into Baked Ziti with Kale and Olives. No matter how you serve it, this sauce will satisfy the hungriest crowd!
Spaghetti is one of the most popular “when all else fails” dinners. We’ve all had evenings where heating sauce and boiling water for pasta was the most we could handle. Thank goodness for meals like this on evenings like that! With this instant pot pasta sauce simple recipe, you’ll never need to turn to the jar again for great sauce. And I promise it’s just as easy. I’ve added variations to suit your mood and the contents of your pantry. This sauce fits the bill as a quick weeknight dinner, but you’ll feel comfortable serving it to company, especially if you add meatballs or pasta.
NOTE: The instant pot version is my favorite way to make pasta sauce, but the stove top works if you don’t own an instant pot.

Instant Pot Homemade Pasta Sauce
Set your instant pot to the “Sauté” function, heat the oil over medium heat. Add the diced onion and crushed garlic and cook for 5 to 8 minutes, until the onion is soft. Stir in the crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, dried basil, dried thyme, sugar, and grated Parmesan cheese. Season with salt and black pepper. Reduce the heat to medium-low and cook until the sauce is bubbling and hot.

Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons olive oil.
- 1 small onion, diced.
- 2 garlic cloves, crushed.
- 1 (28-ounce) can crushed tomatoes.
- 1½ teaspoons dried oregano.
- 1 teaspoon dried basil.
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme.
- ⅛ teaspoon sugar.
- ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese.
- Salt and black pepper.
- Cooked pasta, for serving

Step by Step Instructions
Step 1
Turn your instant pot to Sauté and allow it to preheat.
Step 2
Add the oil and heat it on medium heat.
